In my clinical work I try to help individuals know themselves better so that they can make the optimal choices for a full and rich life and for pleasurable relationships. I find that the individuals I work with are often initially uncomfortable about knowing themselves fully because of years of hurt or shame or lack of recognition. Aspects of themselves are actually out of awareness and our work brings these aspects back into focus, releasing energy and vitality.
I see individuals for long-term or short-term therapy and re-evaluate the goals of the client as we proceed. I generally work with couples and families on a once a week basis, and similarly, reconsider the goals and needs of the relationship as we move along.
Being a clinical psychologist has brought me the wonderful reward of seeing many patients grow emotionally into a more fulfilling life. This is the most gratifying part of my life as a professional.
